Send us the car
Photos taken properly tell us more than a phone call — we can see what the paint is actually doing before you've left the driveway.
How to photograph your paint
- 01
Go outside, into direct sunlight
Swirls only show when a hard, single light source hits the paint. Shade, overcast or a garage hides all of it.
- 02
Rinse it first if it's dirty
Dust and road film read as defects.
- 03
Put the sun behind your shoulder
Stand so the sun's bright reflection sits on the panel — the swirls appear as fine circular scratches around that hotspot.
- 04
Get close, and shoot at an angle
About half a metre, slight angle, one panel filling the frame — not the whole car.
- 05
Flash off, portrait mode off
Both smooth out fine scratches.
- 06
Bonnet, roof, boot and a door
They take the most damage — plus anything that's worrying you.
- 07
One wide shot of the whole car
So we can size the job.
